HI, I AM MIMI

RESCUED FROM: STRAY

Oreo was barely 8 weeks old when he ended up at a county kill shelter. His owner had taken him to the clinic at the shelter, and shelter employees advocated for his safety. He was intakes into the shelter and a plea to rescues was sent. His condition was critical: severely emaciated, with bloodwork completely out of whack. The shelter staff knew his situation was dire, and they gave him just two hours before he would be euthanized. His life was hanging by a thread - and they couldn’t leave him to suffer through the night.

Thankfully, we saw and stepped in just in time. Oreo was rushed straight to the emergency room, where doctors immediately began working to stabilize him. The situation was grim — he was fighting for his life, and even the doctors mentioned humane euthanasia. But Oreo was a fighter, and we weren’t giving up on him.

The first step was an immediate blood transfusion to try and improve his blood levels. But within the first 24 hours, his condition remained critical. He couldn’t even lift his head. On day 2, Oreo had to have a central line placed into his jugular vein to manage his fluids and support his failing organs. At this point, we were faced with two options: humane euthanasia or a second blood transfusion along with a plasma transfusion. Oreo kept fighting, so we chose to support him. In addition to these transfusions, Oreo was given a feeding tube to provide him with much-needed nutrition. His body was severely depleted, and every drop of nourishment was essential for his survival.

Things got even more complicated when Oreo began throwing up and passing piles of worms, a sign of a severe parasite infestation. His kidneys began shutting down, and he developed jaundice, turning a sickly yellow. His body was battling multiple life-threatening conditions simultaneously.

The doctors diagnosed Oreo with Leptospirosis, a bacterial infection, and pancreatitis — both of which added even more stress to his already fragile system. His condition continued to decline, and the doctors fought relentlessly to save him, but each day brought new challenges.

The medical bills mounted up quickly, totaling over $10,000 for his care. Despite the overwhelming costs and constant battles, Oreo never gave up. And despite all the odds stacked against him, Oreo fought back.

But Oreo wasn’t alone in his suffering. He was part of a litter of puppies, all born into a horrific situation. His siblings did not survive the conditions they were subjected to in the care of their abuser. Oreo is the only survivor of his litter. There is currently an open and ongoing investigation into the conditions in which Oreo and his siblings were kept. The abuse they endured is heartbreaking, and Oreo is a living testament to the strength it took for him to survive.

After days of emergency care, Oreo’s condition finally began to stabilize. His organs started functioning again, and he began gaining strength. It was clear that this tiny puppy wasn’t ready to give up, and he was transferred to our primary animal hospital for further hospitalization.

Now, Oreo is doing much better. He’s gained weight, his fur is growing back, and he’s a lively, playful puppy again. He’s still in recovery and will need to be neutered once he’s fully cleared by the doctors, but he’s already come so far.

Oreo is ready to find his forever home. He’s been through so much, and is now ready for the love and care he deserves. While he still has a few weeks of recovery left, and needs to be neutered… Oreo is looking for a family who will love and cherish him.

If you think you can provide that home for Oreo, please submit an application today. He’s ready to finally live the life he’s fought so hard for.🐾
